Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony will take place in the Pentland Auditorium. This is located in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

Welcome Reception
Sunday 10 October 2010, 20.00 – 22.00 hours

An informal Welcome Reception will be held on the Sunday evening after the Opening Ceremony.  This reception will coincide with the opening of the exhibition and poster area allowing delegates to relax and socialise, renewing old friendships and making new ones. Drinks and a finger buffet will be served.

Gala Dinner
Wednesday 13 October 2010, 19.00 – 01.00 hours  

The ICSB 2010 Gala Dinner will be hosted in true Celtic style at Our Dynamic Earth which offers stunning 350 degree views across Edinburgh’s picturesque cityscape and Royal Park.

Drinks will be served in The Earthscape Galleries, telling the story of Planet Earth’s evolution through time. You can sip your drink beside a real iceberg or enjoy the Rainforest.

Dinner will be served in the Stratosphere with its magnificent translucent roof and glass walls, followed by evening entertainment within the Ozone which is bathed in natural light and unspoiled views of the Salisbury Crags and the new Scottish Parliament.

Please note tickets are limited, so book your place early, a party not to be missed.

Ticket Price: £60.00 per person (including coach transportation from the EICC)

Tours Programme
Delegates and accompanying persons may purchase tickets for the Tours at the time of registration.  Please note that registration for optional tours and events will be confirmed upon payment of first come-first served basis. A minimum and maximum number of delegates booked onto tours may be necessary.

From the comfort of your touring coach discover the history and beauty of Edinburgh. Start the tour visiting the Georgian New Town, with its sweeping crescents and terraces, then move on to the historic Royal Mile with its enchanting wynds and closes. A visit to Edinburgh Castle affords wonderful panoramic views of the city skyline along with the chance to see the “Honours of Scotland” – Scotland’s Crown Jewels.

MALT WHISKY TOUR – the water of life

From Edinburgh we travel southwards to the pretty village of Pencaitland, where we visit Glenkinchie Malt whisky distillery. After a tour of the distillery there is a “wee dram” to sample a taste of the finished product, before having the chance to visit the specialist whisky shop.

FULL DAY TOURS

LOCH LOMOND & THE TROSSACHS
Saturday 9 October, 09.00-17.00 hours

From Edinburgh travel to Stirling with it’s imposing castle and then head westwards to Callander. From Callander we drive into the Trossachs, which is a scenic area of lochs and mountains. After climbing the Dukes Pass we will shortly arrive in the small village of Aberfoyle, where we can visit a Woollen Mill. Later we make our way to Loch Lomond, to enjoy a cruise on the loch, before returning to Edinburgh.

BLAIR CASTLE & PITLOCHRY
Friday 15 October, 09.00-17.00 hours

Travelling from Edinburgh we make our way to Perth, where there is a visit to the Caithness Glass Works, to see how intricate paperweights are hand-made. Northwards into the Highlands and soon we will arrive at Blair Castle, the ancestral home of the Dukes of Atholl, the only men in Britain allowed their own standing army. After time to visit the castle we turn southwards to Pitlochry, a pretty little town on the River Tummel. Here we will visit little Edradour malt whisky distillery, the smallest in Scotland, before relaxing in Pitlochry, prior to returning to Edinburgh.
